In Cavaria con Premezzo integration passes through the Italian school

Ukrainian or Pakistani, Albanian or Black African, educated in their countries of origin or illiterate, newly arrived or in Italy for some time. There are so many “types” of students “graduated” from Italian courses in Cavaria con Premezzo. However, it would be more correct to talk about students, given that the majority of students are women.

«The courses, which have just ended, were interesting a total of 53 participants, mainly women, aged between 20 and 68» explains the councilor Irene Adele Scaltritti.

The courses are not new, in Cavaria with Premezzo, on the contrary it is a precise choice of integration, promoted by the Municipality through an agreement with the Cpia of Gallarate which made qualified teaching staff and teaching materials available, guaranteeing completely free Italian lessons (photo credit).

«Compared to previous years, it was possible to also activateand two Pre-A1 level coursesthat have allowed to respond to the specific needs of users not educated in their country of origin” continues Scaltritti. «Furthermore, taking into account the complexity of the path offered in the initial literacy courses, it was deemed appropriate to distinguish a course aimed at women (illiterate but in Italy for many years) and another aimed at young migrant men, not educated and recently our country”.

The reality of the students who attended the lessons in the Council Room made available by the Municipal Administration is, as mentioned, multifaceted and in some way also reflects the changes in the area. «Alongside the presence already recorded in previous years of students of Pakistani and Albanian nationality, this year it was observed an increase in Ukrainian students and those from sub-Saharan Africa. A part of the latter participants (9) turned out to be composed of applicants for international protection, in charge of the Cooperativa Ballafon, a cooperative with which our administration has collaborated profitably in the past” (among other entities in dialogue with the administration for other projects there is also the Associazione Pakistani Varesini, as the Gallaratese area is characterized by large Pakistani community.

«Constant attention was also paid to the topic of citizenship education, offering continuous points for discussion and training on the various aspects of civic life in Italy» continues Scaltritti.

«On the part of the students there was an active and interested participation in all the proposed activities and a high and constant attendance.
The students achieved significant improvements in the use, both written and oral, of the Italian language and were able to acquire the vocabulary and communicative functions essential for daily life in our country. 23 students of the A2 level course will take the final exam, scheduled for June 10th in Gallarate, a necessary requirement for obtaining the long-term residence permit. However, A1 and Pre A1 level students are expected to continue the course. Definitely a success, of which our Administration is very proud. The Italian language is the path that unites us. There is no true integration without this obligatory step, that of learning the language of the country that hosts you.”
