PALERMO, 23 MAY – Five thousand students, to remember the victims of the Capaci massacre, gathered this morning in front of the Palace of Justice in Palermo. They are the girls and boys from 56 Sicilian schools who join the Network for anti-mafia culture which has the Giuliana Saladino institute of Palermo as its leader. Theatrical performances, poetry readings and musical performances alternate in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele Orlando 32 years after the massacre. “If the mafia were just a criminal organization we would have already won – says Giusto Catania, Saladino manager – which is why we must have an impact on training. With this objective, last year, the Network was born which brings together 139 schools and which today organizes fifty events in Sicily. But our action takes place throughout the year with initiatives that also concern teaching for teachers”. “We are convinced that in the fight against the mafia we must start with young people,” says Giuseppe Tango, president of the National Magistrates Association in Palermo who, together with the Bar Association, led by Dario Greco, joined the demonstration. Also in front of the court this morning is Don Luigi Ciotti, the founder of Libera. At 11.45, in the Piazza della Memoria, behind the Palace of Justice, a moment of remembrance for the victims of Capaci will be held, which will see the presence, among others, of the national anti-mafia prosecutor Giovanni Melillo.
