Local police checks continue to combat the phenomenon of indiscriminate abandonment of waste, in order to protect the environment and urban decorum. The camera traps placed help and in 2023, 716 investigations were carried out using camera traps, from which in 406 cases (around 57%) the perpetrators of the offenses were traced and the related report was contested; in 2024, 103 violations have been detected so far and 40 (approximately 39%) reports have been issued.

A curious circumstance in which the agents of the Environment and Animal Welfare Section, responsible for such checks, found themselves operating was that which emerged in recent months when, by observing the recordings, it was ascertained that two men, on board a van, had went to the ecological island of Lido di Savio, in Piazza Forlimpopoli, and had dumped several bags of waste into the bins, wearing sunglasses and a hood in an attempt not to be recognized and get away with it.

However, they had not considered that the area was monitored by camera traps, which had immortalized the vehicle’s license plate. The two were then tracked down, had to admit their responsibilities and pay a fine of around 500 euros for incorrectly placing waste in five different bins: 104 euros for each violation.

During 2023, 318 reports regarding the abandonment of waste were collected by the Operations Room and around 80 were received since the beginning of the year.
