The castle of Cisterna d’Asti is preparing to welcome the last two cultural events of the month of June, both with free admission and open to all interested parties.

Sunday 23 June at 5pmGiuliano Giovine will present his book “King of the workers and king of the vagabonds. The coopers of Canelli and the Asti area (1890-1945)” published by Impressioni Grafiche. A work resulting from forty years of research that traces the social history of coopers through documents, articles and interviews. Giovine will discuss with Piercarlo Grimaldi, anthropologist and former rector of the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo, and Renato Grimaldi, former professor of Social Research Methodology at the University of Turin.

The second appointment is scheduled for Sunday 30 June, always at 5pm. On this occasion, Michele Antonio Fino will present his essay “Gastronationalism” published by People Idee. A critical analysis of today’s Europe in light of the problems linked to integration and the spread of populist and nationalist phenomena, with a particular look at the role of food as an identity factor. Fino will discuss with Silvano Valsania, President of the Piedmont Ecomuseums network.

The initiatives are promoted by Polo Città per l’Astigiano e l’Albese, the IC of San Damiano d’Asti, the Museum of Arts and Crafts of the Past, the Municipality, the Parishes and Caritas of Cisterna, with the support of Between production spa, Israt, the “Il Pellicano” bookshop and the AIMC of Asti.
