blood, money, weight releases

PALERMO – People shoot, kill and make money through drugs. No surprises from the raid that yesterday involved twenty-six people in Brancaccio. Not even the fact that the mafia is present, although crippled more and more every day by arrests.

The Roman murder

The investigation by the Palermo Prosecutor’s Office photographs the drug business until 2022. A lot has happened since then. Two in particular. One affects criminal dynamics, the other is a news item which must be taken into consideration.

The first: Giancarlo Romano was killed on February 26th. The lead stopped the rise of the new boss who was killed in the context of a settling of scores for the management of clandestine betting.

The triumvirate

The second: About ten days ago, a powerful mafia boss, Nino Sacco, was released from prison due to the end of his sentence. He will not be interned in a workhouse where he risked staying for a long time. No “white life sentence”. Once he finished serving 13 and a half years in prison, he was given probation and a stay at home and work.

The Supervisory Court accepted the defense’s appeal. There are times when the mafia bosses remain at 41 bis, the regime of hard prison, even though they have finished serving their sentence. It goes from extension to extension.

This was not the case with Sacco, one of the triumvirs who reigned in Brancaccio. They were at his side Cesare Lupo and Giuseppe Faraone. One step higher is the head of the district Giuseppe Arduino. They were all arrested in 2011.

Lupo is still detained. It will take a long time before he finishes serving a cumulative 28 years. Pharaoh is free for the end of his sentence for a couple of years. Arduino was rearrested a few weeks ago.

The boss’s son

In yesterday’s raid his son, Alessandro Giuseppe, ended up in prison. considered the mafia’s long arm on drug trafficking together with Alessio Carusowho walked around alongside Romano.

Arrested in 2009, Sacco was acquitted and released from prison in 2011, only to return to prison a few months later. An interlude of freedom in which, however, he made his voice louder. According to justice collaborator Antonino Zarcone, the triumvirate had received the mandate directly from the Graviano brothers.

In 2020 Sacco was sent to house arrest. Those were the days of Covid and of the fear that in prison isolation from the virus could not be guaranteed to those in fragile health. He was the first on the list of prisoners to return to his cell by virtue of the new decree of the then Minister of Justice Alfonso Bonafede, overwhelmed by the controversy over releases.

Sacco is free, the investigations into him have come to nothing leaks from a confidential source on Francesco Nangano’s crime, murdered in 2013. A crime still unsolved. A year and a half earlier, the secret services would have picked up the news that Nangano was at odds with the clan’s leaders. Rumors, suspicions, no confirmation.

Meanwhile in Brancaccio people are shooting, killing and making money from drugs.
