Today Fim, Fiom and Uilm of Caserta with the participation of the provincial confederations of CGIL, CISL and UIL held a joint meeting of delegates from metalworking companies to discuss the serious industrial crisis affecting the Caserta area.

From the discussion it emerged with clarity and determination that we cannot rely on failed reindustrialization projects that favor the industrial impoverishment of the territory and then pass the failure onto the skin of workers as happened with the Softlab and Orefice Generators projects.

Conversely, to defend and relaunch production activities, coordinated strategies and actions are needed between the Central Government, the Campania Region and local institutions to encourage the creation of business networks that share knowledge, technologies and resources, to grant tax breaks to companies that invest in research and development of eco-sustainable production, provide incentives for the installation and use of renewable energy sources to reduce energy costs and reduce environmental pollution.

These are just some industrial policies that were to be favored by PNRR funds and necessary to support and make Caserta’s metalworking sector more competitive.

The American multinational Jabil cannot abandon the territory of Caserta, this decision could represent a mortal blow to the electronics sector which historically has represented a strategic sector for Caserta around which skills and knowledge have developed. The Government and the Campania Region must speak to the American board to convince them to stay, other solutions will never be able to guarantee the economic resources necessary to compete in global markets with global suppliers and customers as Jabil can guarantee with 120 factories and 250,000 employees worldwide.

In the household appliance sector which sees Caserta involved with the Carinaro site, it is essential to monitor the passage of the majority of the corporate stake from Whirlpool to Beko because the industrial strategic nature of Carinaro as a logistics hub for the EMEA area must be confirmed.

Even in the automotive sector it is necessary for the Government to intervene on Stellantis to encourage the production of one million vehicles in Italy which would also secure the entire production chain of the automotive related industries present in Caserta such as PCGA, Proma, Snop and Antolin which bring together over a thousand workers who are forced to resort to redundancy payments for the few cars produced and with an uncertain future because Stellantis invites related companies to relocate new production to low-cost countries.

Provincial Fim Fiom and Uilm proclaim the general strike for 13 June 2024 with the presence of the General Secretaries Uliano, De Palma and Palombella so that Caserta “returns to the Land of Work”!
