punished by Moroccan parents for a “too Western” lifestyle, they forcefully take her away from the bar and lock her in the house

In a municipality in the province of Isernia, a young woman of Moroccan origin was taken by force and threats from her family, contrary to her lifestyle considered too Western. The girl, eager to become independent by working in a bar, clashed with her family’s desire to impose strict rules on her.

The police, alerted by the young woman’s colleagues who had not seen her at work since May 5, started investigations fearing a case similar to that of Saman Abbas. The agents of the anti-crime division of the Isernia Police Headquarters, directed by the Police Commissioner Davide Della Cioppa, went to the girl’s home, picked her up and took her to the Police Headquarters, where she told the investigators what had happened.

Following the investigation, a domestic violence warning was issued to the young woman’s father, mother and brother. According to a note from the Police Headquarters, “the conduct carried out towards the young woman would be attributable to the family’s desire to impose cohabitation in the family home, as well as ways of living strictly adhering to the canons of the Muslim religion, prohibiting her, among other things, from establishing romantic relationships with Italian citizens, thus compressing his free self-determination”.
