La Sapienza visits the FS logistics terminal in Pomezia

The Logistics Hub of the FS Group has opened the doors of its Intermodal Terminal in Pomezia to the students of the Master in Infrastructure and Railway Systems Engineering at the Sapienza University of Rome.

An opportunity to see up close how we work to encourage intermodality between rail and road, quickly transferring goods from train to truck, and vice versa, for the last mile.

The visit represents the closing day of the module dedicated to Goods Transport and Logistics which, over the course of these weeks, has seen professionals from the Logistics Center alternate in the classroom to illustrate all areas of integrated logistics.

The Pomezia terminal, managed by Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal, represents a fundamental hub for freight transport in central Italy, connected with the rest of the country and Europe, through a network of high-frequency freight rail services.

The plant extends over an area of ​​90 thousand square meters plus 3 warehouses of 21 thousand square meters in total, is equipped with 13 tracks used for intermodal and conventional traffic and manages approximately 4,500 trains every year.

The 2024 edition of the II level Master’s Degree in Infrastructure and Railway Systems Engineering, promoted by La Sapienza University in collaboration with the FS Group and other authoritative companies in the sector, involves 17 students graduated in Engineering (mainly specialized in Civil Engineering ). Overall, the Master is made up of 12 Modules. The Logistics Hub has been involved since 2003 in module 8 “Goods Transport and Logistics (TML)”, coordinated by Prof. Filippi and Aldo Maietta, Regulatory Affairs Manager of Mercitalia Logistics.
