The Ubik bookshop in Corso Italia will host a weekend dedicated to women’s issues with two meetings organized in collaboration with numerous local associations involved in promoting women’s rights and fighting gender violence. Among these, Non una di meno, Fidapa BPW, Women’s Consultation, Telefono donna, Ondif, Alda Merini odv anti-violence help desk, Save the woman, Creis and Donne in QuotAzione.

On Friday 24 May, at 6pm, the events will kick off with the presentation of the book “Portraits of women 2. 27 authors talk about 27 extraordinary women. From Sibilla Aleramo to Tina Turner”. The authors Giamila Zaghloul and Piera Cavalieri will be present to discuss the inspiring stories collected in the anthology edited by Sara Rattaro, in collaboration with Fidapa BPW, Telefono donna, Ondif, Sportello antiviolenza Alda Merini odv, Creis and Donne in QuotAzione. The meeting will be moderated by Milly Torcello and Stefania Traversa.

The book celebrates the lives of women who have left an indelible mark on history, often obscured or overlooked. Among the protagonists, scientists, artists, journalists and writers, each of whom challenged conventions and left a significant legacy. The stories told are intimate windows into the crucial moments that defined the destinies of these extraordinary women, offering the public a tribute to their strength and power.

On Saturday 25 May, again at 6pm, it will be the turn of the writer Marta Stella who will present her novel “Clandestine. The novel of women” published by Bompiani. The meeting, organized by the Non una di meno association, will be introduced by Roberta Cospito. The book explores the stories of women who, despite adversity, fought for their rights and their dignity, offering a profound reflection on the female condition.

“We are the daughters of those who have paid dearly for their choices in an increasingly bigoted Italy that forces us to be virgins or mothers. Now it’s our turn.” These thoughts arise forcefully in the soul of the protagonist, a student in a high school in the center of Milan, at the end of a day that marks her forever: she has had an abortion. She made her choice thanks to those who guaranteed her medical assistance but she did it as an illegal immigrant: we are at the end of the Sixties, in Italy there is fascist legislation that punishes abortion with prison. The voice that guides us through these pages is that of a lost but already fierce girl, who becomes a woman by fighting together with other women, in the formidable epic of feminist movements.

Marta Stella gives us a work of absolute originality, a precious tool for reconnaissance of the past and at the same time the vibrant novel through which a young writer participates in the courageous, tormented journey of women towards freedom.
