Mille Miglia 2024, the awards ceremony returns to Piazza Loggia, then there will be the Notte Bianca

The awards ceremony Mille Miglia for the 2024 edition will return to Piazza della Loggia – and then the White Night – and the historic cars, for the entire duration of the event, will once again (after the stop of the Covid period) remain in the city, after leaving Piazza Vittoria to be admired by Brescians and tourists. These are some of the innovations for the next edition of the Freccia Rossa illustrated in the Commerce commission by the Tourism Councilor Andrea Poli, the result of an exchange with the organizers.

The Red Arrow program

On Sunday 9 June the village in Piazza Vittoria will open at 4.30pm and in the evening the Gaburri Trophy will begin. There will be stamping on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th June – the day of departure, at 12.30pm, from Viale Venezia. Saturday 15th, from 12.30pm, the return of the cars. Traders will also have the opportunity, by applying, to use the space in front of the shops for free during the event.

The summer schedule

The commission was also given some previews of the summer schedule which will include sixteen shows. A specific focus is dedicated to Piazza Vittoria. From the end of May, Poli anticipated, «sporting and street-related events will be organized which allow us to get closer to a problematic target, understand their discomfort and involve them in healthier activities. This does not take anything away from the parallel path related to safety.”

Criticism Brothers of Italy with Mattia Margaroli and Carlo Andreoli deeming «the organization of events to resolve the safety problem in Piazza Vittoria insufficient» and insisting on the application of the urban Daspo. The Council is also working on the launch of a tourism observatory with Visit Brescia and hoteliers and the Catholic University.

Twinning with Kaunas

A controversy arose in the commission over the twinning with the city of Kaunas. Paolo Fontana (Forza Italia) reiterated that for the centre-right «twinning is preparatory to the removal of the naming of streets and statues named after fascist hierarchs in that city» and Poli recalled that the municipality of Kaunas «has expressed the will to unequivocally mark a break with past crimes and remove these symbols. We want to revive works that evoke the fascist era such as the Bigio e the twinning with Kaunas is objected to».
