Meeting between Confindustria Crotone and Extraordinary Commissioner of the SIN –

“We asked the Commissioner for Reclamation for a meeting to take stock of the redefinition of the Sin perimeter in the industrial area of Crotone. We understand that some areas owned by local companies have already successfully passed the findings of the MASE for some time and can therefore be candidates for exclusion from the SIN”, thus Mario Spanò highlighted the theme at the center of the meeting with Commissioner Errigo.

Also present were the Vice President, Alessandro Brutto, and the Councilor Francesco Mazzei, the occasion was useful to reiterate the expectations of the companies of the Confindustria system regarding the reclamation of the industrial area.

“We have reiterated this many times in recent years and we are always convinced that the reclamation must not be stopped in any way. It must continue and achieve the objective of bringing waste to plants suitable for its treatment, to guarantee safety for our community first and foremost. We need to focus attention on the productive redevelopment of the area: this seems to us to be a step that deserves the attention of all the interlocutors at the reclamation table”, Spanò underlined.

Confindustria Crotone is looking very carefully at the recent candidacy of the port area, by the Port System Authority of the Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas, to the Expression of Interest of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security which provides “the identification of state-owned maritime areas to be used for the construction of infrastructures for the production, assembly and launching of floating platforms functional to the development of shipbuilding for the production of electricity”.

This investment could be integrated with the redevelopment of the sites subject to reclamation and, therefore, provide for their productive use with an impact both in terms of employment and economic development for the entire territory.

Commissioner Errigo reiterated his commitment to completing the recently drawn up intervention plan and every action necessary to continue the reclamation of the former industrial area by the end of his mandate. “Crotone presents characteristics and potential that deserve our full attention. Completing the reclamation is an indispensable pre-condition for creating safety and generating development. My commitment is to do everything possible and in my power to safeguard the health of citizens and set in motion virtuous mechanisms capable of generating the economy and jobs.”
