POTENZA – As part of May in Potenza, on Friday 24 May, starting at 6.30 pm, “U mozz’c’ of the farmers of San Gerardo” will take place in Potenza. A suggestive snack at sunset, organized by the “Iatrida” folk dance company, by the “Tarantella of the farmers of San Gerardo” group and by the “U Uarniedd” cultural association, will revive the celebration of the convivial and musical moment, created by the women of the farmers of San Gerardo, way back in 1800.
Groups of farmers will parade to the sound of the tarantella, along the streets of the historic centre, to invite everyone to the Piazzetta Santa Lucia. The peasant women will arrive in this festive space with their scented baskets, tablecloths and provisions to feed the farmers and offer those present “nu mozz’c” of bread and omelette or cold cuts. To cheer up the moment, in addition to the songs, dances and sounds of the Lucanian tradition, there will be a peasant falconer who will dedicate herself to the flight of her barn owl Tonino. Anyone will be able to join the party for free, to discover the pleasure of sharing which, at the time, intensified social relationships, consolidated bonds and created moments of happiness.
With this singular initiative – explain the organizers – the aim is to preserve the precious cultural heritage of the rural agricultural and peasant society which, with the disappearance of the last custodians, risks disappearing.
