A discussion with the candidates for the next administrative elections and for the choice of the mayor who will administer the Municipality of Fiorano, organized by local trade associations and moderated by Fabio Sala, took place the other evening at the Astoria Theater, with the participation of the candidates Marco Biagini (Centre Left), Giuseppe Manfredini (Centre Right), Luigi Montermini and Mario Giovanardi (civic lists). Among the topics addressed, the housing emergency caused by the lack of available homes and high rents, disincentives for those who want to move to Fiorano.
“Many unused housing structures could be recovered and redeveloped – explains Giovanardi –, starting from the buildings in the areas of via Poliziano and via Torre Oche, the Cisa Cerdisa sector, while for rentals we are relaunching the idea of shared housing cooperatives, one of the solutions to reduce rents”. “Buying and renting in Fiorano has become an unattainable goal – said Biagini – despite a large heritage of public housing: our goal is to reach 200 public residential units by redeveloping properties that are already available to the municipality (former hall council building in via Marconi) as well as transforming the Villa Rossi property into a student residence for healthcare professionals who come to work in the area”.
For Manfredini “it is necessary to work on the regulations currently in force which penalize the change of intended use, redeveloping unused spaces and offices within the warehouses and which can be used for residential use by their employees by placing a restriction. For Montermini it is necessary to start from a census of the resources available in the area “disused properties and structures could be used and encourage the rental of second homes with tax breaks”.
Another topic covered was the redevelopment of the Artisan Village of Fiorano, an area with 15,000 workers employed in hundreds of companies. For Montermini it is necessary to “study a plan to improve the efficiency of the structures by reducing the environmental impact with a view to an increase in electric vehicles”.
For Giovanandi one of the focuses is the maintenance of pavements, car parks and services for truck drivers while Biagini focused on the theme of sustainable mobility with attention to the green areas of the city. The issue of safety was touched upon by Manfredini: “The asphalt and sidewalks need to be redone, as well as making the cycle paths connecting Fiorano to the industrial center safe.”
