PESCARA. After the sold out Roman preview at Cinema Barberini and the participation in many national and international festivals, winning several awards, “Carne et Ossa”, a documentary by Roberto Zazzara, returns to Abruzzo: with the presence in the room of the director and producer Cristiano Di Felice who will meet the public, will be screened tomorrow evening, at 8.45pm, at the Multiplex Arca in Spoltore. In Pacentro, a small village perched in the mountains of the province of L’Aquila, in the heart of the Majella National Park, where the pop star Madonna has her roots, a unique race in the world has been held for centuries, where the sacred and the profane meet in powerful and mysterious way: the men of the town throw themselves, barefoot, from a cliff made of living rock and run down to the stream, and then back up. It is a cruel race, which is faced barefoot. The first to enter the Church wins the so-called Gypsy Race. An ancestral rite whose origins are lost in time, and in which one participates for spiritual or material reasons, linked to the indissoluble relationship between man and nature. Men and women who, stubborn, face this test ignoring danger, pain and fatigue, convinced that their faith will protect them. A cathartic moment that unites them in the search for the final goal. A challenge with oneself, but also with nature. In “Carne et Ossa” Zazzara recounts the race through the voices and poignant images of the true protagonists, the runners of yesterday and today.
