Healthcare: the first territorial operations center inaugurated in Crotone

An innovative model developed by the Region to strengthen healthcare: the first territorial operations center inaugurated in Crotone

CROTONE – The first was inaugurated yesterday morning in Crotone via delle Nazioni Unite in the Tufolo district Territorial operations center (Cot) regional. An innovative organizational model developed by the Region which aims to enhance and speed up accessibility to health services in the area, create a more responsive healthcare model attentive to the needs of citizens – patients. In terms of healthcare, as explained after the ribbon-cutting of the facility, the greatest impact on healthcare and social-health care will be in the treatment of patients. The Crotone Cot has foreseen a financial commitment of 240,000 euros, coming from Pnrr funds. With a contribution from the Pythagorean Asp of around 70,000 euros. And, in the intentions of the Region and Asp, it will better coordinate “assistance to people and in connecting the various services and professionals, identifying the most appropriate assistance path for the patient and reducing waiting times”.

The extraordinary commissioner of the ASP of Crotone Antonio Brambilla underlined that «we are inaugurating the Cot of Crotone which has the function of connecting the hospital level and the territorial services. We start with protected discharges, then we encourage the ongoing care of fragile subjects who, after the assessment preceding discharge from hospital, will be transferred to rehabilitation facilities. We are also working to structure the route to the patients’ homes, so that hospital-territory continuity is achieved. Leaving first in Calabria – he added – also means testing the service behind which there are many documents and IT tools. And therefore be able to offer the Region and the other ASPs an evaluation of the critical issues that can be found in this complex and innovative path.”

The primacy of the Cot structure is not only in being the first to be born. But also in being the most significant intervention of the Region in the health field so far with the Pnrr funds. This aspect was underlined by the consultant for the Pnrr on healthcare construction of the President of the Region Roberto Occhiuto, Licia Petropulacos. For the latter, the inauguration in Crotone «is particularly relevant» because «it is the first concrete implementation of the Pnrr that we see with respect to building projects. Because other things have been done but are less appreciable physically and in time. The Cots are all starting to open and these are challenging achievements from an organizational point of view. But which essentially aim to ensure that the fragile patient and his family do not fall into the holes that are often created in the passages between the home and the hospital.”

When asked about community homes, the consultant then said: «for now the deadlines are respected. They must finish in 2026 and evidently there is still time ahead and the Region monitors the situation monthly. The executive designs have also been approved and we are now moving on to implementation. The Region at the time mostly made the choice, except for two cases, to renovate as was also the case for this Cot in Crotone. And clearly this makes the timing less relevant because evidently building from scratch is always much more challenging.”

Present at the inauguration were the medical director of the unit, Lucio Cosentino, and the director of the single district Pietro Brisinda. The councilor for social services of the Municipality Filly Pollinzi, the vice-president of the Province Fabio Manica. And the staff of the, the team responsible for the Pnrr and other figures of the general and health management of the Asp.
