Queues on the A9 and throughout the city: Pentecost’s fault

Difficult morning for traffic after the Swiss Pentecost holiday. As every year, slowdowns and traffic disruptions were recorded along the A9 motorway between Como center and Chiasso, as well as between Como Monte Olimpino and Lomazzo Nord.

The reason is the reopening of the commercial customs of Chiasso, which remained closed yesterday 20 May for the Swiss holiday. This morning the customs reopened at 4, but the queue of waiting trucks now reached as far as Lomazzo.

To try to reduce the inconvenience, some changes to the road system had been established on the A9 Lainate-Como-Chiasso motorway, such as the introduction of a lane deviation between Lomazzo nord and Como Grandate to allocate a lane for heavy vehicles and allow cars to flow more smoothly. Closure measures were adopted until 2pm with recommended alternative routes. The Lomazzo nord junctions are affected, entering towards Chiasso and Fino Mornasco, entering towards Lainate and Chiasso and exiting for those coming from Lainate. Finally, the connection on the A59 Como ring road is closed for those coming from Lainate.

The traffic disruptions on the motorway also had repercussions in the city, where queues and slowdowns were recorded from the early hours of the morning, especially in the Lazzago area. However, traffic was very slow throughout Como.
