A 21-year-old Tunisian with no criminal record was stabbed on Wednesday 15 May around 9.30 pm in Bologna, in the Montagnola park area. The alleged perpetrator of the murder is a 17-year-old Tunisian boy with a history of robbery and drug dealing who was arrested.

The story

The victim was stabbed in the side and died shortly after in hospital from his injuries. Late this afternoon, railway police personnel tracked down the alleged perpetrator of the murder in Piazza delle Medaglie d’Oro, in front of the station. It is believed that the crime arose following an argument over the attempted theft by the 17-year-old of the victim’s bike. It is not excluded that other people participated. The boy is already known to the police for robbery and drug dealing.

The investigations

Some particularly useful testimonies are fundamental for the investigations. The probable knife used, various shards of bottles and numerous traces of blood were acquired. The other people who intervened, then left, tried forcefully to block the attacker, causing him various injuries which did not prevent him from fleeing.

The security problem

Known for being an abandoned place, the Montagnola park has historically been plagued by crime problems and was also patrolled by the Army as part of the “safe streets” operation. Here last Saturday night a woman was raped by a 25-year-old Tunisian.

Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi commented on the tragedy as follows: «A very serious episode that adds to the last few days», says Matilde Madrid, head of cabinet of the Municipality of Bologna.

The reaction of the residents

«Citizens are tired of being afraid – underlines Madrid – The Municipality, together with many entities, is about to start a three-month event in the Montagnola park, with events every evening to build a cultural presence in the area, but on the external area from the Pincio and Piazza XX Settembre, a solution is needed. We are ready to collaborate with the police and ask that the minister intervene as soon as possible.”
