Against the problem of finding a home in Ravenna for university students, families open their doors to them. In fact, the Register of welcoming families of the Municipality opens to those enrolled on the city campus of the Alma Mater of Bologna, signing a specific collaboration protocol which also uses the “Ravenna welcomes talents” project. In more detail, the activation of an integrated local system and support services is envisaged, also making available the Register of welcoming families tool, launched in 2021 and initially aimed only at minors and adults. The collaboration with the Ravenna Campus and with the Flaminia Foundation therefore aims to give non-residents the opportunity to apply for family hospitality and for families and citizens to support young students especially in the initial phase of starting the university experience. The latter will also be able to apply to be supported by a mentor, a voluntary figure to support their stay and their journey in the city. “The ever-increasing presence of young people in the city for study purposes is extremely positive but new needs are also emerging”, explains Immigration councilor Federica Moschini, among which “the need to find accommodation solutions stands out”. The Register project, “shared immediately and with conviction by the Campus”, adds president Mario Neve, represents “a strong signal of welcome and integration, which concretely responds to a deeply felt need”. The new initiative is connected to the Immigration Desk for international students, also developed as part of “Ravenna welcomes talents”, which communicates with the International desk of the Campus, the orientation, reception and information service. The “challenge”, he concludes, is “to mobilize citizens and families so that they can give an opportunity to the many students”. Citizens who apply can offer hospitality for periods of three and six months, or offer their time as a tutor.
