Viterbo – We receive and publish – On Sunday 23 June, the traditional procession in honor of San Crispino is renewed in Viterbo, thanks to the Capuchin Fraternity and the San Crispino da Viterbo Association, whose liturgical memory is celebrated on 19 May.

An appointment always awaited with faith and devotion that wants to help rediscover the cult and devotion towards a saint from Viterbo who lived his whole life in simplicity and selfless love towards everyone.

Poverty, prayer, charity: it is the synthesis of his life, a very current example for all the Capuchins of today and for all the people of Viterbo who venerate him.

Crispino, Pietro Fioretti, was born in Viterbo on 13 November 1668; he entered the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin on 22 July 1693. For forty years he exercised the office of begging in Orvieto and its surroundings to provide the means of subsistence for the religious family and for all the needy of his “great Orvieto family”.

The work he carried out in the welfare and religious fields, especially towards the sick, prisoners, sinners, unmarried mothers, families in poverty, souls on the verge of desperation, is incredible.

Peacemaker between brothers, spouses, private citizens, cliques and civil and religious authorities and all with holy joy. Very devoted to the SS. Sacrament and of the Immaculate Virgin, he was filled with celestial wisdom, for which he was consulted by learned men. He died in Rome in the convent on Via Veneto on 19 May 1750 “so as not to disturb – he said – the feast of San Felice”. He was beatified by Pius VII on 7 September 1806 and canonized by John Paul II on 20 June 1982.

On Sunday 23 June, at 5.30 pm, the procession with the statue of the Saint will move from Piazza Crispi to the convent of the Capuchin friars where the body of Saint Crispin is preserved with faith and devotion.

This will be followed by the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration presided over by the Bishop of Viterbo Monsignor Orazio Francesco Piazza whose liturgical service is provided by the post novices who find their training in the Convent of Viterbo.
