Remembering Adrian

Let’s start from the Gagno neighborhood, where Adrian left us a year ago, one of our comrades who found the path to personal redemption in the fight for the right to live, and who with the activity of the AS.IA-USB home office he was an example for those who, with him, we supported and organized against the housing emergency in the city.

Pisa: a medium-small sized city, with the characteristic massive presence of the student component, experiences dynamics very similar to large metropolitan centres; real estate speculation has always played out in good times and bad, in close relationship with the political class of every color, which at a national and local level has guaranteed the conditions for the explosion of “brick” income, against the right to living.

Last November ’23 we analyzed the housing condition of Pisa, taking inspiration from the text “The prisoners of the brick: income vs right to live”, going into detail about the causes and prospects that could have arisen in the political-social scenario.

Those analyzes found confirmation in the housing policies of the re-elected Conti Council, which one year after its confirmation, still demonstrates that it is unable to conceive the problem of the right to housing as structural, fueling it with buffer solutions such as the use of hotel facilities private to address the housing emergency of the many families and individuals under eviction who, due to the economic crisis caused by the war economy, are unable to pay rent and mortgages.

Instead of refinancing social and public housing programs for the maintenance and recovery of vacant assets, the Municipality sees fit to include 386 public houses in its 2024-26 disposal plan, of which almost 30 in the neighborhood of Gagno.

At the same time it continues to promote new land consumption, allocating millions of euros, as in the case of the construction site in Via da Morrona, for a 24-apartment APES building, when with the same money it could have recovered hundreds of empty apartments, all for continue for evidently the real estate income.

Like the workers, tens of thousands of students living in Pisa end up in the spiral of real estate speculation, for whom systematically, for example, the number of accommodation places provided by the regional body for the right to education (DSU ) has always been on average 3-4 lower than the applications submitted.

The campaign will go through several moments over the next few months and in the various neighborhoods of the city. Along with the banquets, the booklet “Pisa: a home for all” will be distributed, which also collects our proposals to truly guarantee the right to live in the city, starting from blocking the sale of hundreds of properties and green areas, to which it will be possible to contribute by signing our popular petition addressed to local governments.

The program for Saturday 15 June
H-18.00 presentation of the brochure and the popular petition
H-6.30pm popular snack, music and games for children
