Compartment n.6 (Hytti nro6) by Juho Kuosmanen, with Seidi Haarla and Yuriy Borisov, is the Finnish film based on which will be screened on Sunday 19 May 2024 at 6 pm in the multipurpose room of the Cloister of San Domenico
The event is part of the “Cinema in the library” series conceived and promoted by the cultural association Una which has been organizing screenings of films in the original language for several years now. “Compartment No. 6” is about a Finnish archeology student in Moscow, basically a fish out of water completely out of her usual context.
The male protagonist is a Russian miner, shady and with a heart of gold, both are headed to Murmansk, an Arctic city in the far Russian north; they are two very different beings but they are inevitably forced to spend the journey together towards a northern part of the former Soviet Union, now no longer united.
It is a tender and delicate cinematic work, of great realism for the reconstruction and constant use of the handheld camera; a film in which the unsaid matters as much as the passing of time and the rhythm of the images, with a direction that fully enhances the protagonist duo. Freely based on the novel of the same name by Rosa Liskom, it won the Special Jury Grand Prize at Cannes.
The “Cinema in the Library” project initiative is in collaboration with the Lametino Library System and is supported by the Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The project boasts the broad and qualified partnership formed by Chiostro Caffè Letterario, Associazione Lucky Friends, Civico Trame and Cooperativa Inrete.
