A new service that will allow passengers to travel more comfortably and with less weight on them, even before arriving at the airport. The Leonardo da Vinci of Fiumicino lands in the center of Rome. In fact, a new space has been inaugurated at Termini station where passengers will be able to check in and take their hold luggage on board without additional costs. Thus, from the center of the capital, luggage can be collected directly at the destination airport. This is the novelty offered by “Airport in the City”, the new off-airport check-in service of Aeroporti di Roma, reserved for ITA Airways passengers departing from the Roman airport. A service designed especially for tourists who, on their last day of sightseeing in the Eternal City, will be able to send their luggage hours before the flight and continue to enjoy the city.

How does it work

Travelers can complete the check-in process and leave their hold luggage at Rome Termini at least three and a half hours before the flight departure time, every day from Monday to Sunday from 8:00 to 16:00 , and then collect them directly at the final destination airport. Technical partner of the initiative is OACIS, an international player active for years in various airports around the world in the off-airport check-in service.

The “Airport in the city” station is located within the commercial area of Rome Termini station, with access from Via Giovanni Giolitti 16 and near the Central Market and platform 24, from which the Leonardo Express leaves every day, the non-stop service that connects the train station to Fiumicino Airport in just 32 minutes.

For the initial trial period, “Airport in The city” is exclusively dedicated to travelers with an ITA Airways flight departing on the same day from “Leonardo da Vinci” to any destination (with the exception of the USA and Israel). In the future, other companies will also be able to join the initiative.

The transfer of baggage is also carried out with the utmost attention to environmental sustainability, since the vans used are powered by sustainable fuel produced 100% from renewable raw materials, an element that contributes to the decarbonisation of transport, a trajectory on which Aeroporti di Roma is strongly committed and on which since 2021 it has promoted the Pact for the Decarbonisation of Air Transport in partnership with the main institutions and companies in the sector.
