Exhibitions, installations and fashion shows in the name of Made in Italy: Lucca fashion weekend returns

The second edition of Lucca Fashion Weekend, scheduled for June 27th to 29th. An event wanted by the municipal administration in collaboration with the Pop cultural association and the participation of the Chamber of Commerce and trade associations.

Artisan tradition and new contemporary visions are the lines along which the event moves, which presents itself as a crossroads and meeting point between generations. A two days full of events: installations, talks, exhibitions and presentations in conversation with historical locations and art buildings.

“For the second year we are happy to promote an event to support not only local artisan excellence – explains lPaola Granucci, councilor for production activities – but which broadens its gaze beyond the regional horizon, welcoming and bringing together projects and realities united by the search for beauty and respect for quality. Lucca is a meeting point between the arts, a generous stage that illuminates and lights up the sharing of ideals. Lucca fashion weekend is an extraordinary opportunity to get to know the area, its wonderful artisan and commercial realities, its incredible places and panoramas, with the aim of protecting our tradition but with an eye towards innovation, research and experimentation”.

It consolidates the structure of the event which unfolds in three pillars united by innovation and sustainability: Lfw Enda container for presentations for young independent brands, ateliers and local and national artisan businesses, and talks with independent magazines; Lfw Expintended for exhibitions and installations spread across the streets of the city, art and urban fabric in privileged conversation and Lfw Off, to promote initiatives and events organized by commercial activities along the main shopping streets, they will liven up the streets of the city with extraordinary presentations and openings.

Among the events to report in the Lfw End section there is also Underground, an exhibition project that sees the city’s underground spaces welcoming young designers and prestigious artisan businesses. Historic places and buildings will be the privileged setting of the Lfw Exp section. Among the exhibitions worth mentioning is the exhibition of Antonio Canova and Neoclassicism in Lucca in the Spaces of the Ex Cavallerizza – curated by Vittorio Sgarbi – where the statues of Antonio Canova will be in dialogue with the evening dresses of Roberto Capucci, “the silk sculptor”.

Via dei Fossi, the ancient silk road, will bear the signature of Francesco Zavattari and Laura de Cesare. Here, silk will be the protagonist, the theme of the event, where a spatial installation curated by Francesco Zavattari will involve and envelop the historic street of Lucca in an intriguing canvas, to animate ancient abandoned spaces and give life to an interactive path where matter and light will converse in exemplary harmony. Zavattari will then perform an evocative performance during the opening ceremony of the event. Focus on craftsmanship and the mastery of the hands with the laboratory exhibition The Silk Road. The Filaticcio Lucca, where the artisan and weaver Laura de Cesare will carry out a live weaving of Lucca yarn on a pedal loom, set up with local historical fabric. Furthermore, the canvas works of the Lucca weaving association will be on display.

Space then to Boom! Italian fashion. An exhibition project that celebrates the origins of Italian fashion will be the setting for the round table dedicated to Made in Italy which will be held at the Banca del Monte Foundation in Lucca, where it will be possible to admire an archive selection dedicated to the fashion of the historic magazine Italy Tomorrow weekly published from 1958 to 1960.

And the exhibition is still worth mentioning Barbie Showhistory, contemporaneity at the Banca del Monte Foundation, dedicated to the iconic doll. A selection from the private collection of Renata Frediani, among the most important collections of the famous Mattel doll, with the historic Barbies between 1959 and 1980.

Space for events in the streets of the city in the Off section. Of note, Artisanal Crossroad, a widespread installation project involving independent brands in as many iconic places in the city. Ancient jewelers, framers, historic bookshops and local artisans will host a selection of independent brands. And again, the flash make-up and olfactory discovery initiatives by Armani beauty and Le Vanità perfumerie under the loggia of Palazzo Pretorio.
