“There is a lack of maintenance and remedial interventions”

The intense wave of bad weather that crossed the entire Ravenna area on Wednesday afternoon caused serious damage including flooding and hailstorms. Once the storm has passed, reactions from the political world are unleashed, asking the institutions for answers and solutions, while a new burst of bad weather is expected today. Parties and committees of flood victims take a stand after the new damage suffered by the territory.

Faenza flood victims’ committees: “Prevention and protection measures must evolve”

Following the meteorological events of the last few hours which have heavily affected some municipalities in the Romagna Faentina and Lower Romagna, the Faenza flood victims’ committees intend to express: “Solidarity and closeness to the populations once again affected by the consequences of events which are taking on increasingly worrying recursive characteristics , concern for the evident ineffectiveness of the technical and procedural measures taken for the prevention of said events, anxiety for the lack of information about the existing programs and the applicable and planned technical solutions for improving the levels of protection of the population with respect to such situations , firm request for re-evaluation of the risk of individual communities and for communication to the population of the most appropriate measures to be taken for the protection of property and individual safety”.

The Committees of the Faenza flood victims also underline how “these events dramatically recall what happened in May 2023 and that, where environmental conditions evolve, the criteria and measures for individual and collective prevention and protection put in place to protect the populations must equally evolve”. Finally, the Committees express their concern for “the ability of the territorial sewerage and water system to respond effectively to recurring meteorological events”.

Rifondazione Comunista: “Hera does not carry out sewer maintenance”

The Communist Refoundation club of Villa San Martino (Lugo) declares: “A couple of hours of rain were enough to once again find ourselves in a situation with serious flooding in some streets of Lugo and the Forese area. From via Isonzo, published on social media by Municipality of Lugo, in via Fossa, in the Madel area with people who find water in their homes again. All this happens because Hera does not carry out maintenance on the sewers, despite the flood disaster, despite the Tari for the citizens. continues to increase, despite the enormous profits that Hera produces (around 267 million euros in September 2023) every year it continues to offer a service that is lacking and undersized in terms of people, resources and investments”.

“We can no longer allow Hera to act in this way, as we said in our program, either Hera changes or we change Hera – continues the Rifondazione circle – unfortunately since the common shareholders sold the shares, public ownership of Hera has gone from 62 % at 45.83%, that is, they have no longer had a majority for a few years and therefore Hera does not account for what it does or does not do, we therefore ask for immediate intervention from the Municipality before the situation worsens”.

Popolo della Famiglia: “The territory needs interventions”

Even the People of the Family intervened on the sidelines of the violent storm. Mirko De Carli, candidate for the European Parliament with the Freedom List, comments: “Fortunately the problems are lighter than the tragedy of 2023. However, for a population put to the test by a dramatic year, still finding water in the house is a real blow Enough with the justification of the sudden and abundant rain shower: the area needs interventions which are clearly still missing today.”

Alessandro Vitali, municipal manager of the Popolo della Famiglia in Faenza, continues: “Houses and roads attached, agricultural fields as well. After a year, it seems like a bad joke, we are still at the top. It is really difficult to explain to citizens now how it is possible to find each other in emergency with every storm. Even psychologically it becomes really hard to face everyday life.” “It is essential to raise awareness of the importance of carrying out basic interventions for the safety of the territory, especially after what happened last year. Unfortunately – conclude De Carli and Vitali – it seems that common sense and the desire to remedy things is increasingly hindered by a system that does everything except what needs to be done.”
