Lamezia Terme – One hundred candles for Mr. Eugenio Mastroianni. Born in the then Municipality of Sambiase on 15 May 1924, the first of 10 brothers and sisters. He is married to Marianna Mendicino and had 4 children, two boys and two girls: Domenico, Pasquale, Maria Luisa and Carmelina. The family then expanded with 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Surrounded by the affection of his children, relatives and friends, he celebrated his 100th birthday: “an incredible achievement of which everyone is proud”. Also present at the event was Mayor Mascaro representing the municipal administration. Eugenio Mastroianni has always worked with passion, but also with many sacrifices, in agriculture and, in particular, in the wine and oil sector. As a young man he also worked in the former sugar factory. Always with great passion he cultivated the garden to provide for his family and those dear to him.
He has never hidden his love for wine, from production to tasting. “Even today – his children remember – no one can deny him the usual glass with his lunch. Just like in the old days.” Furthermore, they say, one of his usual habits was to dress well and go to the bar in front of the church of San Francesco in the afternoon to play trumps with friends and an inevitable fresh Peroni in front. He always came home with the mint sweets he won during the match which he gave as gifts to his children.” Smiling and lively, Eugenio thus celebrated his 100th birthday.
