It is an absolute and indisputable domination, that of the UAE Emirates al Tour of Switzerland. The fifth stage took the caravan from Ambrì to Carì for 148.6 km and to the summit of the final climb – truly spectacular – Adam Yates made his mark by further strengthening his position as leader of the general classification.

On the Carì climb the Ineos first set the pace, then when it came into action the young Del Toro the group of the best has crumbled. So it was Joao Almeida to break the bank. With him and Yates, in fact, only Bernal, Mas and the young American Riccitello remained. Around -1500 meters Yates’ first acceleration, followed by a second at 900 meters which allowed him to leave all alone.

Behind him, Almeida climbed at his own pace, gradually caught up with his rivals and finished second with Bernal third, then Riccitello and Mas. Uijtdebroeks, Pidcock and above all Skjelmose, winner of the last Tour of Switzerland, are further behind.

For Adam Yates it is the third victory of the season, the 26th of his career while the UAE Emirates reaches 39 in this truly extraordinary 2024.

It should be noted that Jacopo Guarnieri did not start as he had been struggling with respiratory problems for days.
