“We need to use resources wisely”

CAMPOBASSO – Water is increasingly a precious commodity. Coldiretti Molise is convinced of this and yesterday (14 May) took part, with the regional vice President, Adamo Spagnoletti and the Director, Aniello Ascolese, in the meeting, organized by the Basso Molise Reclamation Consortium in Larino, on the occasion of the National Land Reclamation and Irrigation 2024 on the theme “Water nourishes us and gives life”. Present, in addition to the Commissioner of the Consortium, Fabio Talucci, were also the Regional Councilor for Agriculture, Salvatore Micone, the President of the Province of Campobasso, Giuseppe Puchetti and the President of the Venafro Plain Reclamation Consortium, Raffaele Cotugno.

During the event, in addition to the inauguration of the new consortium headquarters which was moved from Termoli to Larino, the program agreement “Pact for the recovery of plastic waste” was also signed and the new logo of the organization chosen from those created by the students from the Larino Agricultural and Surveying Technical Institute, from the Larino Scientific High School and from the Termoli Artistic High School. The day also provided the opportunity to make some important reflections on the topic of water resources and the importance of the correct use of what, in light of ongoing climate changes, is defined as “blue gold”.

“The need to use water resources in a prudent and conscious manner – stated the vice president of Coldiretti, Adamo Spagnoletti – is today a priority”. Starting from this, Spagnoletti, thanking Commissioner Talucci on behalf of the Organization for “the excellent work done”, emphasized the importance of addressing the debt situation as soon as possible which can allow the Organization to operate as best as possible support of local agricultural businesses.

The vice president also underlined that “the correct use of water also involves the creation of small reservoirs, as repeatedly suggested by Coldiretti at a national level, which would serve both agriculture and industry and the entire population”. Coldiretti Molise, evaluating the strategic nature of the role played by the Land Reclamation Consortia, deems it necessary for the Region to support these bodies, and in particular, as regards “Lower Molise”, to intervene substantially so that the objective of economic recovery can be achieved -financial. Considering water an economic good, Coldiretti hopes that the consortium bodies can create structures that allow them to reduce waste first of all by also looking at the valorisation of the excess resource, in order to generate financial income.

In addition to this, it would also be necessary to think about innovative methods for the production of electricity, necessary for lifting, by creating, together with hydroelectric power plants, also floating photovoltaic panels, using part of the water bodies of the dams. This would make it possible to produce energy for the benefit of the Authority, contributing in part to its economic recovery which is of most interest to agriculture, not taking up cultivable land and reducing the evaporation of water in the summer periods, thus limiting waste as much as possible.
