A new light has come on along the side of the Casato in Piazza del Campo: the Tufo bar and restaurant has officially opened and that part of the square will no longer be dark.
Last night, the venue was inaugurated, taking the place of the old Scudieri, after a long period of closure. A bet that the owner of the fund Bruno Mazzuoli wanted to make together with the entrepreneur Giovanni Carli, who has long been active in the world of catering. The design has been completely renovated, with eight internal rooms, a capacity of 120 seats and the same number outside.

“With Bruno Mazzuoli we had already opened the Tata Mama pizzeria in Piazza Gramsci a month ago – comments Giovanni Carli – and since I love challenges I wanted to undertake this one too. I know it’s not easy, but by working well you can achieve results. Our goal is to give Siena a place that remains open all year round. We are focusing a lot on the Sienese public and our hope is that they will respond well.”

Over the years, with previous managements, the difficulty of catering on that side of the square has become clear. There are many reasons: first of all, being decentralized is a fundamental aspect and the fact that it is the least sunny part of the square can play a decisive role.

“We know very well the difficulties of this part of the square – explains Carli -. The tendency of people is to go towards Fonte Gaia. Furthermore, the Casato section of the road is much narrower than that of the source; therefore, even putting tables outside is more difficult. In this regard, we have studied different tables, with particular legs, in order to facilitate both customers and service. We focus a lot on quality and I think this is an important aspect that people pay a lot of attention to. Our offer, in fact, includes top quality meat and good pizza. When it comes to drinking, however, we are fortunate to have top-level bartenders, capable of choosing the best raw materials. Finally, we will organize events, live music and shows, so as to cater for various age groups.”

So, all that remains is to wait, but in the meantime Piazza del Campo is also preparing for the reopening of La Speranza, which will be managed by two young Sienese entrepreneurs.
