Only one Abruzzo hotel in the Michelin guide – L’Aquila

Only one Abruzzo hotel in the Michelin guide. A Michelin Key assigned to Sextantio Albergo Diffuso in Santo Stefano di Sessanio, unique in the Abruzzo region. Sextantio Albergo Diffuso has achieved “A Michelin Key”. On May 7, 2024, the Michelin Guide revealed the new awards: One, Two and Three Keys for the most extraordinary hotels in our country. The presence of only one Abruzzo hotel in the Michelin ranking is a fact that makes us reflect on the tourism situation in our region.

The Michelin Guide includes over 5 thousand hotels around the world and none of these are a mere refuge for the night. These are places that contribute significantly to the travel experience, each of which has been examined and judged excellent in the five criteria used for hotel selection: excellence in architecture and interior design; individuality, personality and authenticity; quality and solidity of service, comfort and maintenance; relevance of the structure within the locality in which it is located and consistency between the price and the experience offered.

The result of evaluations by inspectors, the Michelin Keys represent the crown jewels of our selection. Like Michelin Stars for restaurants, Michelin Keys identify excellence in the hotel experience.
The 2024 Michelin Guide hotel selection in Italy includes 8 Tre Chiavi hotels, 31 Due Chiavi hotels and 107 Una Chiave hotels.

Among the 107 structures with a Michelin Key there is therefore also Sextantio Albergo Diffuso in Santo Stefano di Sessanio four years after the complete update. The Hotel Sextantio is located in the ancient Abruzzo village on the edge of the Gran Sasso National Park, on the slopes of the Apennines. The hotel was born as a cultural project and occupies several buildings in the historic center in a place of extraordinary beauty with breathtaking landscapes. The completely renovated interiors have preserved the architectural heritage of the original structure, bringing it back to its ancient splendor.

The common areas, after the conservative recovery, have been furnished in the traditional style of the poor art of the Abruzzo mountains, with authentic furniture and fine fabrics. The 29 rooms, also decorated with stucco and period furniture, offer a classic atmosphere and modern comforts that combine perfectly, without interfering with the period decoration. All rooms have a wood-burning fireplace and diffused underfloor heating and modern marble bathrooms with bathtub and shower. At guests’ disposal a small cellar where breakfast is served and a restaurant with authentic Abruzzo cuisine based on fresh local products.
