Taranto evaluates the squad, waiting for Capuano

TARANTO An almost unnerving wait, but not destined to continue for who knows how much longer. Tomorrow will begin the week (potentially) aimed at defining Capuano’s future on the Taranto bench: a contract in place until 2026, the desire already announced by the owners, in the figure of president Giove, to continue the relationship, but also the coach’s firm intention to carefully evaluate the basis of the future technical project which, for him, must smell of ambition. Conversely, the hypothesis of farewell would also materialize on the table. Regardless of the coach, Taranto will start from a base of 11 players during the next season: these are, at the moment, those under contract until 2025 and 2026.

GOALKEEPERS
It’s expiring Vannucchi That Loliva. The extension of the first until 2026, in reality, had been announced in recent months, but there is no evidence at the membership office: never deposited or no signature ever affixed, it is a mystery which, in the coming weeks, will have to be clarified. Also linked to the club until June 30th is Loliva, who has transformed into the “symbol man” of the locker room complete with chants sung at the end of every match won (but zero appearances in the 2023/24 championship).

DEFENDERS
They have often alternated based on their periods of form, but next year they could both be starters: it’s about Enrici And Riggio even if the first is indicated as a potential “tool” (in terms of price tag) to realize a further capital gain. It goes without saying that both are linked to Taranto until 2025 like the former Captain Ferrara, officially a low winger despite Capuano having reinvented him wide in midfield. Even the latter, on the shores of the Ionian Sea since 2018, could take flight towards other shores, perhaps Serie B if the right dynamics materialise. Same duration for De Santis, who ended up on the fringes of the squad between December and January: after the period in Fermo, which culminated in relegation to D, the former Monopoli player will return to the rossoblù.

MIDFIELDS
The only certainty, to date, is Calvano, a highlander: omnipresent, always the protagonist of performances far beyond mere sufficiency. He made the difference and, based on his experience, he can really continue to make the difference with the rossoblù jersey. Called to ransom, however, Matera and Crecco: the former was unable to settle in as well as he could, the latter, after the good season in Latina, is looking for a second chance in Puglia. Then there is Mastromonaco, the only one contracted until 2026: a negative year just past after he managed to show off six assists in 2022/23.

ATTACKERS
There are three center forwards linked to Taranto until 2025. In this case, they are Kanoute, Bifulco and De Marchi. The former, in rossoblù, scored 13 goals, reaching double figures for the first time; the second, for his part, was the protagonist of a season that was too alternating current compared to his potential, while the former Padova player aims to carve out a more “continuous” space for himself considering the perennial run-off with Simeri who, owned of Bari, will not return to Taranto. A base of 11 players, therefore, already exists, but it is clear that a possible permanence of Capuano would also “reconnect” Miceli and Luciani, two of the pillars of the coach’s way of doing and understanding football, to the rossoblù colors ( at the moment) of Taranto.
