“It’s not over until it’s over.” The girls of Gea Basketball Grosseto followed the example of Yogi Berra, legend of American baseball, by winning on the pitch of Florence Firenze (54-40), in anticipation of the last day of the Serie C team’s salvation. A success which allows Luca Faragli’s quintet to get back to just two points behind the Florentines, with one match to go before the end of the championship. The red and whites will compete at the Palasport in via Austria against the queen of the group, Montecatini, who have had the pass for next season in their pocket for some time and who were beaten by Pisa.
In the Palasport of San Marcellino, Martina Borellini and her teammates played an amazing match. It was mandatory to win by at least four points to have the direct matches in their favor and Gea did much more, winning all four partials with a team sacrifice, turning the ball over and looking for the safe shot.
«I’m really happy with the girls’ behavior – comments coach Luca Faragli – after the initial 1-1 we suffered a couple of bombs that put us 9-1 down. A time out was enough to put everything back in order and fly away without brakes. Captain Mascio did not enter Florence, but there would have been no history with her either. My girls were determined to bring home two points which left open a small hope of salvation at the last dive. All very good, but I have to say thanks to Borellini, who returned from a long trip and immediately made herself available, making an important contribution.”
