Macerata, 8 June 2024 – News that left everyone speechless. There death of the bassist Riccardo Messi it shocked not only the community of Appignano (Macerata), where he lived, but all the people on social media who followed him loved his music and his person. The funeral will be celebrated tomorrow at 4.30pm in the church of Gesù redentore ad Appignano.
Messi was the bass player of Mortimer McGrave, but played and collaborated with many other groups. The 44-year-old’s death was caused by an illness at home: the tragic discovery was made by the artist’s parents. His passion wasn’t just music: “I’m a sketch artist – he wrote on his social page -, I create caricatures, drawing for cartoons and comics”. Many knew him as “Recall”: many have left a message on Facebook, there are those who have told a memory and those who are still in disbelief at the news of his death.

Words are not enough to explain the ache”, writes a friend; “I have always and only been able to love you Ric… Wherever you are, continue to color this worldplease..”, the words of another. Anger, desperation and affection in the messages: “There are no words, but only in deep bewilderment”; “You lived very intensely every single day… a true artist with a lot of imagination…You’ve done 1000 things… so many passions… so much Music… so many Friends… you’ve lived in different places… you’ve travelled… you’ve drawn everything and made caricatures of so many people. ..”. “Our great little Library was one of the rooms you liked to frequent and in which we shared your art and your bursting personality and friendliness – is the post you read on the Facebook page of Appignano library – Prometeo Association: we spoke a few days ago to tell each other about new projects and new dreams… hello Riccardo Messi…you will always be with us, among the colors you loved so much… thank you for everything you gave us and a strong hug to your parents… no words now to alleviate the immense pain.” “Imaginative designer and talented bassist of Mortimer Mc Grave and various bands. A nice and kind person, full of art and soul. It’s impossible not to love him”, are the words in the post by the Folkantina group. “We will never forget you“, writes another friend of the bassist; “yours will be missed sunshine and your everlasting smile. Let them have fun with your bass, wherever there is after this life”. And someone greets him, with nostalgia: “Have a good trip”.
