“Tournament of dispute”, the Teramo students go to the final in Rome – ekuonews.it

TERAMO – In recent days, in the headquarters of the Court of Cassation in Rome, the team of the Council of the Teramo Bar Association qualified in the territorial final of the central area of the “Dire e contradictre” tournament, a competition organized every year by the Council National Forense with the aim, among other things, of educating young people in the correct and constructive use of the word.

The students, who attend the Delfico-Montauti high school in Teramo, attempted to comment on a phrase by the philosopher Noam Chomsky, the one in which he claims that “true education is teaching people to think for themselves”. At the end, the Abruzzo team got the better of the teams from Palermo and Rome and qualified for the national final.

On May 22nd, at the headquarters of the National Forensic Council, in Rome, the students of the Delfico-Montauti high school will compete in the final against the teams from Taranto (finalist in the southern area) and Fermo (finalist in the northern area). The Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, and the first president of the Court of Cassation, Margherita Cassano, will be present. A delegation from the Order of Teramo will be present at the CNF headquarters to support its students.

The president of the Council of the Order of Teramo, Antonio Lessiani, congratulated the children for the result achieved: “The Order of Teramo – said Lessiani – in recent years has invested a lot of energy in projects with high schools, establishing an ad hoc commission coordinated by the Order’s councilor Giulia Forlini. Our thanks also go to the director of the Delfico-Montauti high school, Iside Lanciaprima, to the teacher Marta Vittorini, contact person for the project for the school, and to the children involved in the tournament”.

“Participation in this competition based on the techniques of forensic rhetoric – declares councilor Giulia Forlini – offers students an important opportunity for growth. The children comment on sentences that increase their knowledge on topics of great interest and, at the same time, develop important skills in the field of active citizenship. The result achieved by the students of the Delfico-Montauti High School is the result of a virtuous synergy, that between school and the legal profession, which has proven to be highly effective”.
