The territory of the province of Agrigento is often characterized by calamitous events caused by the spread of forest fires and, in many cases, attributable to the carelessness of citizens or the lack of adequate prevention measures. All this, naturally, causes the incineration of hectares of forest land and damage to productive and economic activities as well as losses of human life. These are the reasons why the Prefecture of Agrigento and the Department of Civil Protection convened an operational coordination meeting with all the major representatives of civil protection in the Giglia hall of the Free Municipal Consortium to address the very thorny issue of summer fires.
The meeting was attended by the voluntary civil protection associations of the province of Agrigento and the civil protection delegate of the Free Municipal Consortium Marzio Tuttolomondo. Fires are sometimes influenced by particular climatic and environmental situations (presence of winds, very dry conditions of vegetation, high temperatures) and their danger often depends on these factors which can cause damage to the heritage of various crops, woods, inhabited centers and the public and private heritage of the community. The meeting intends to focus on the issue of forest fires in the vast territory of the province, characterized by a large surface area of hectares of land and, above all, intends to develop a coordination strategy, together with the Department of Civil Protection, the Fire Brigade Command and to civil protection representatives to combat the phenomenon.
