Univaq raises a wall with the hospital

A wall between the university part of the San Salvatore hospital and the departments of the L’Aquila hospital. The Univaq project, which replaces the existing door with a wall, is not convincing: over 100 signatures have been collected.

This is what is happening to San Salvatore dell’Aquila where we are proceeding, in recent days, according to a University project, to close a connecting door between the Delta 6, where the university doctors in agreement and the specialists have their offices, and the departments of the L’Aquila hospital. Before this project, “there was a door”, say the doctors, “which allowed direct and level access to the various departments of the hospital”.

Now this will no longer be possible, with the restructuring of Dentistry which involves, in fact, the bricking of the door. Therefore, the voices of those working in this area have been raised. They were collected further 100 signatures asking for a stop to the works and a change of the project, not both in the name of “practicality” of access and to safeguard safety and accessibility.

In fact, the access time to the hospital premises from this area goes from a handful of minutes to at least a quarter of an hour, that is, the time to go out and walk around the building. But that’s not the main problem: the the walled door was the only one that was level. The others exits are with stairs or involve the use of elevators: a solution that is not practicable in case of emergency or for people with disabilities.

Many university doctors and specialists have signed the letter requesting a halt to the work. Among them, Professor Francesco Bizzarri: “We will also evaluate with the Fire Brigade and the Labor Inspectorate whether this was the most appropriate way to carry out this project, or perhaps the fastest. The earthquake seems to have taught nothing.”
