Gargano. A real race against time to bring forward to May 15, 2024 the total reopening of the Ischitella-Peschici Calenella railway section closed during the winter to complete the modernization and safety works on the line. Objective made possible by the joint effort of several sectors of Ferrovie del Gargano to reduce downtime and alleviate the inconvenience of commuters and travellers. From Wednesday 15 May, therefore, the line will be definitively reactivated with the train schedule foreseen by the timetable promptly remodulated and released in recent days. A goal that satisfies the company management. «We succeeded in the difficult task – comments Dr. Vincenzo Scarcia Germano, president of Ferrovie del Gargano – to bring forward the reactivation times initially scheduled for June, with the entry into force of the new summer timetable. And yet here we are, welcoming the resumption of the service: a dutiful gesture towards commuters, students, travelers who, in this long period, have experienced considerable inconvenience in moving from one end of the province to the other, even if to reach San Severo or Foggia and connect with long-distance trains. An inconvenience that pushed us to step on the accelerator on the timetable of the works without however neglecting the commitments regarding safety”.
A long journey for the new look of the route now also equipped with 19 new level crossings which further raise the level of safety on the route which, let’s remember, between Rodi Garganico and San Menaio, runs along the coast, guaranteeing an irreplaceable green means of transport. «Safety regulations are an important and unpostponable obligation – adds Dr. Scarcia Germano – necessary to adapt to European standards regarding local public transport.
