The Democratic Party of Legnano responds to the considerations of Fratelli d’Italia regarding safety in the city and the bicipolitana project in Via 29 Maggio. Below is the full text.
Ensuring safety in the city of Legnano is a priority for the municipal administration is carrying out its action, through numerous initiatives ranging from the joint action of the local police and the state police, to initiatives related to neighborhood control, street tutors and numerous initiatives to reduce degradation in the area.
The Democratic Party of Legnano works daily not only on the analysis of numerical statistics, but above all on listening to the voices of the city, touching the realities of the most vulnerable and the elderly, from the suburbs to the center. In this regard, in the month of March a meeting was organized open to all citizens, where the citizens who attended were able to bring their voice, directly confronting the Mayor of Legnano and the councilor Anna Pavan with responsibility for Social Security.
A part of the listening process that will continue with other initiatives open to all citizens. The actions undertaken, such as an increase in cameras and lighting, are only part of the measures that the Administration has already undertaken and which has led to the maximum number of police forces employed in the city. The phenomena of petty crime are a problem paid attention to by the State Police which, being competent in the matter, was requested by the municipal Administration: the State Police has been activated with patrols that come from Milan every 15 days and carrying out additional services.
The city of Legnano has a local police service that arrives until 01.00 (from Wednesday to Saturday). We must not forget that law enforcement services are not enough if not accompanied by prevention actions, which require time and investments in the areas with greatest social disadvantage. The request for safe streets, often invoked to give greater protection to territory, has fallen into a context in which this very operation has had a downsizing decided by the national government due to its ineffectiveness.
For us it is essential, when talking about safety, to also talk about road safety. We must not forget the daily massacre that occurs on Italian roads. In this sense, the Administration is pursuing the objective of making the city’s streets safe, through investment in the maintenance of road surfaces and by creating a cycle network through the rationalization of existing lines and the creation of new ones. Several meetings were held with citizens, the economic fabric and associations, explaining the nature of the project and accepting the proposals for the evaluation of the technicians. The legitimate concerns of the residents and traders of via XXIX Maggio, also brought to the City Council, were not ignored: we are aware that there is a change underway that will lead to changes in habits in the short term but this change is essential to create a city, and streets, suitable for everyone: elderly people, children, cyclists and disabled people. We believe in this very much and will consistently achieve it for the benefit of the entire City.
