A nurse from the 118 service in Foggia was attacked on Sunday evening by a man rescued following a road accident in the city. The attack occurred as soon as the ambulance that responded to the scene arrived at the emergency room of the Riuniti hospitals. «While he was getting out of the ambulance, the man punched the vehicle. Then in the emergency room he hit me with a punch in the face and a series of slaps on the head »said the 63-year-old nurse, with 21 years of experience behind him, who prefers to remain anonymous. «The driver and the rescuer who intervened with me on board the ambulance – he says – were verbally attacked». L’According to what has been learned, the attacker was subjected to medical checks and discharged, while the nurse suffered wounds that could heal in 10 days and will formalize the complaint against the attacker in the next few hours. The police – according to what has been reconstructed – intervened following the alarm raised by an emergency room nurse through the portable device capable of forwarding emergency calls with intervention priority with which the emergency room was equipped with recent through an agreement between the state police and the general management of the hospital. «We are not protected by anyone. We work – says the nurse bitterly – to bring bread home, to support our families, our children. We cannot live like this, with the fear that something will happen to us. We ask for greater protection.”
