Passionate, as a demonstration of young women and men can be; participated, as a meeting must be where peace and self-determination of peoples is invoked; clean, like things that arise spontaneously for the sake of justice. This was yesterday’s demonstration in Avellino, in the square under a Prefecture building made dark and gloomy in its closed solitude. A Palace that remains deaf to the calls for peace and justice raised by young activists, by Pax Christi, by Arci, by CGIL, by Rifondazione Comunista, by Avionica, by Emergency, by women and men faithful to the declamation of the principles of peace of our Constitution , dipped in the blood of the partisans, of the victims of past crimes and never to be forgotten. A Palace that is the expression of a government distant from the people, insensitive to listening, against the people’s aspirations for peace. Avellino calls for peace, justice and self-determination of the oppressed and in demonstrating this in the places of the Palace claims that this is and must remain an expression of democracy and that all powers are delegated to the sovereign people.
Whoever represents the Prefect today, while awaiting the appointment of the new one, should have felt the duty to symbolically host yesterday’s demonstration under his front door and open his instead barred windows; the yearnings for democracy must not disappear in those rooms and this will never be allowed. To nobody.
