Salvini, Metro 2: “The objective is to move forward with the extensions” – Turin News

A maxi plan to unblock motorways and ring roads. And the goal of building, in the future, the missing sections of the second Metro line of the City of Turin. This is a summary of what emerged from this morning’s ‘Italy of Yes’ meeting at the Reggia di Venaria with the Minister of Infrastructure and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini.

“Now we aim to do the work we are doing well and quickly but the objective is to move forward beyond the stations already financed” said the minister, interviewed on the sidelines of the conference when asked about the continuation of the second metro line of Turin, reverse Santa Rita and Mirafiorito the south-west, and towards Settimo and San Mauroto the north-east.

However, there is a lack of funds from the Ministry: we are talking about approx 2.5 billion. “Piedmont – added Salvini with a note of controversy – in past years has not had the same attention that other areas have had, but – he added – I do not consider the 11 stations we talked about today to be the conclusion of the facts”.

The section is currently financed with 1.8 billion of ministerial funds concerns the subway from Rebaudengo station to the Polytechnic, ten kilometers of route and a completely underground workshop depot. The first months of 2025 will be dedicated to the awarding of the contract and the executive project to start work in the second part of the year.

“At the end of the year – explained the extraordinary commissioner of Metro 2, the engineer Bernardino Chiaia – the tenders will be awarded and the works should begin between the first and second half of 2025, with completion in 2032″.
