A flood of investments for the industrial port ~ CrotoneOk.it

Crotone – There is a new focus on what was once known as a new port or, even before that, an industrial port. Born precisely to serve large factories, with the closure of the latter, the infrastructure entered into crisis. To date it has been little exploited, used mostly for the arrival of wind turbine components, for biomass and, in a small space, for cruises.

The “new port” is about to undergo a radical transformation, already evident, for example, from the presence of the metal carpentry activity which is producing, right on the port, out-of-scale metal modules which will then be exported by sea. This activity involves three hundred workers overall, of which two hundred in the industrial area and one hundred in the port area. This undertaking is part of the strategy for the conversion of Ionian ports into hubs to support the energy transition. But this is not the only news relating to this part of the port. In fact, the recovery works for quay 13 (known as Cidonio pier, which is the northernmost part of the port, where once there were cranes and railway tracks) are being awarded after those have been concluded of characterization and removal of the old mechanical means present there for decades

Other interventions under construction concern the construction of the docks of the fishing center; the new access gates (overlooking the consortium road) following the revision of the customs circuit; the new gate to guarantee the safety of transit for cruise ship passengers; the consolidation of the shore quay (cruises) through the complete restoration of the quay line and the installation of new buffers, suitable for cruise ships. The design of some important interventions such as the internal quay of the outer pier (future destination for cruise ships) is currently being assigned; the pier joints; and finally the dredging of the new port, subject to characterization data.
