Last appointment of the Cineforum “Looks from the future” organized by DBC – Department of Cultural Heritage of the University of Bologna and Start Cinema. Wednesday 5 June at 6.00 pm at the Cinema Jolly in via Renato Serra 33 in Ravenna, will be screened in the original language, subtitled in Italian, The Warriors by Walter Hill (1979).

Andrew Sarris wrote upon the film’s release: “The language of the gangs is deliberately cryptic, the sense of space is clearly magical.” There was a new magic, black and subterranean, in the story of the crossing that leads the Warriors gang from the Bronx to Coney Island, while all the other street gangs are on their tail. Epic and epochal film, for various reasons: Walter Hill’s rebels, without causes other than the pure survival of the group, replicated the climate of (real) fear that reigned in the (real) streets of New York at the time and underwent a restyling in the key of popular mythology, between Italian westerns and knights of the Round Table. Controversial reception, success that became cult, endless imitations.

The appointment will be introduced by the teacher Matteo Zaccarini.

Entrance is free upon reservation by email [email protected]
