Removal of architectural barriers, new works in the historic center

Eliminate all types of obstacles to allow all road users to move around without difficulty. The work carried out by the municipal administration of Cesena on the removal of architectural barriers present in public and school places in the city starts from this assumption. In this way, as already foreseen, after having carried out and concluded the works relating to the first phase of the PEBA project (Plan for the Removal of Architectural Barriers) for a total amount of 150 thousand euros and made in viale Mazzoniand in Ravenna streetswith the adaptation of the bus stop in the hamlet of San Martino in Fiume, e Calatafimi (in Borello)in relation to the adaptation of a further public transport stop, was approved the project concerning via Gaspare Finali, viale Carducci, up to via Leonida Montanari/Braschi, and the pedestrian walkway from Piazza del Popolo to via Zeffirino Re.

As part of the PEBA project, after having acquired the favorable opinion of the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage, the various critical issues for users with reduced or permanently or temporarily impaired motor skills were identified in the historic center area. In particular, it’s about differences in level consisting of steps, curbs, driveways, excessive slopes, uneven, deformed, slippery floors, prefabricated elements, lack of sidewalks, insufficient passages due to vehicle parking, lack of parapets or handrails.

Therefore, for a total amount of a further 150 thousand euros, the following interventions will be carried out by the summer.

Viale Gaspare Finali and Giosuè Carducci. The entire current roadway runs alongside the walls of the historic center and is completed by a cycle/pedestrian path and a sidewalk which present various critical issues. Within the pedestrian paths, the current pedestrian ramps will be brought up to standard with the placement on the paving surface of tactile paths serving blind people in correspondence with the main services such as: pedestrian crossings, local public transport stops and car parks for people with disability. Improving solutions were also evaluated with movements of the crossing points with orientation of the ramps to facilitate road crossing for blind people.

Close to the Barrier, the paving will be maintained and equipped with compliant paths and protected with the insertion of tactile tiles. Anthracite gray parking bollards will be equipped with films visible to the visually impaired. Particular attention will be paid to the pitches with sitting benches which will be expanded and brought into compliance by eliminating stumbles and creating a rest area for wheelchairs with compliant benches. Furthermore, along the route of Via Gaspare Finali, specific extraordinary maintenance interventions will be carried out on the existing curbs and on the paving in general, including that at the pedestrian crossings.

Viale Carducci. In this case we will intervene along the road section that extends from Barriere to Via Leonida Montanari and Via Braschi. The intervention method is similar to that of via Gaspare Finali. Punctual extraordinary maintenance interventions will also be carried out on the existing curbs and on the pavement in general, including the road paving at pedestrian crossings.

L’intervention planned in Piazza del Popolo consists of the already existing pedestrian extension, close to the buildings on the east side. The uneven surface of the flints/cobbles does not favor the transit of the weakest categories, for this reason, over the years, interventions have been made by creating level paths that lead directly to the accesses of the present activities and the municipal building. The extension of the planned pedestrian path connects the current path of Piazza del Popolo with the bus stop in Via Zeffirino Re and the arcades. This extension will complete an already existing route which will allow the continuation from via Zeffirino Re towards via and Corso Mazzini.
