At the Santa Maria della Scala in Siena, the second edition of “Doing school at the museum”, a project that implements innovative teaching capable of rethinking the places of “doing school”, intertwining and multiplying knowledge and promoting, in school girls and boys of municipal childhood who participate, the sense of belonging to the community.

The initiative, scheduled until May 22, was born from the collaboration between the Educational Projects / Pedagogical Coordination service of the Municipality of Siena and the Children’s Art Museum of Siena. On dedicated days, the schools that join the initiative this year carry out their educational and teaching activities at the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex, accompanied by educators from the Children’s Art Museum and with the constant support of teachers and all school staff.

The little ones experience all the routines that characterize the school day every day (breakfast, lunch and rest) inside the Santa Maria della Scala, interspersed with art teaching workshops and itineraries to explore the museum spaces: an integration between school and territory, which allows children to “inhabit” a place that is an integral part of Siena’s identity, perceiving the museum spaces as accessible and familiar.

The project involves all the school staff, teachers and operators, and makes use of the collaboration of several municipal services: the fleet for extraordinary school transport, the finance department for the movement of equipment and materials, the Prevention and protection service for the security protocol, the Municipal Police for any access of families to the ZTL in case of emergency, as well as the ASP “Città di Siena” for the provision of meals at the headquarters of the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex.
