Network of Campania housing communities: recognizing the work of the third sector

The Network of Campania accommodation communities is born in Naples, a network that brings together around thirty structures that welcome minors and young adults at risk of deviance or from the penal area throughout the region, including the Jonathan and Lo Scudo associations, and social cooperatives Luigi Del Prete and the Hot Air Balloon.

After over 30 years of work carried out in collaboration with institutions, social organizations decide to sit at a table and demand recognition of their role and fair remuneration for their professionalism and the quality of the services provided.

“Our fees, and consequently the wages of our operators, are stuck at 2014 levels – explains Luigi Isaia, president of the Lo Scudo association and representative of the newly created Network – We are trying to reason with the institutions to unblock this situation” .

After a fruitful discussion with the Juvenile Justice Center of Naples (in the person of Nicola Palmiero), the Network plans to speak with the Campania Region, in particular with the councilor for Social Policies Lucia Fortini, with whom it will meet shortly.

“It is a question of recognizing the dignity of work – specifies Isaia – adapting the cost of labor to inflation and ISTAT adjustment and above all based on criteria that should be univocal at a national level, and not change from one municipality to another , it seems like an important battle to us.”

The approximately 400 communities found in Campania are mixed, that is, they fall between the administrative area (such as the reception communities for minors without families or unaccompanied foreigners, entrusted by the social services of the Municipalities) and the criminal area (this is the case of the 100 communities in where young people in deviant conditions are found, entrusted by the Justice Centres).

Beyond the delays in payment of the fees of the people welcomed by the Municipalities, there is a bigger problem and concerns, in fact, the lack of recognition of the quality of the work. And it is on this point that the Network of Campania accommodation communities is working.
