Play offs for Serie A, Soccer Altamura flies to the second round
Soccer Altamura’s journey towards Serie A starts off on the right foot. In the first round of the play-offs of the women’s Serie B group C, the Altamura team, on the neutral ground of Bitonto, beats WFC Grottaglie 4 to 2, at the end of a very hard-fought match.

On the parquet of the “Paolo Borsellino” tensostatic stadium, which has returned, for once, to the home of Soccer, the two teams begin the match with a rather cautious attitude. The first shot on goal, in fact, came after five minutes of play with Pegue warming Russo’s hands. Shortly after, Castro calls on Cordaro who takes refuge in the corner, then, again, the guest goalkeeper also says no to Difonzo, who is well served by Plevano. In the 12th minute, Mr. Berardi decides to break the deadlock, sending the fifth movement into play, but it is Soccer who comes close to taking the lead with Carone who, after a rejection by Russo following a shot by Giliberto, attempts to lob the ball into an empty net which is printed on the crossbar.

In the 16th minute, the result finally broke the deadlock: a long pass from Pedroso that cut the field in two and rewarded the insertion of Castro who, in a slide, went past Cordaro. Less than a minute passes and Soccer doubles: Plevano pockets for Pedroso who controls, focuses and puts the ball behind Cordaro. WFC, however, did not lose heart and, again with the fifth of the movement, came close to scoring a goal which came a few seconds before the break when Giliberto took advantage of a misunderstanding in the Altamura defense from just inside the area and let it go a diagonal that gives Russo no chance.

The second half opens under the sign of Soccer who first comes close to scoring a hat trick with Castro, then finds it after less than three minutes of play with Lorusso who, after a good counterattack led by Carone, alone against the Tarantino goalkeeper, makes no mistake. WFC Grottaglie persists with the goalkeeper but right at the stroke of the 6th minute they are punished for the fourth time by Pedroso who, after recovering the ball on the edge of the Altamura area, taking advantage of the empty net, puts the ball in the net. The Taranto team, however, did not give up and in the 10th minute managed to reopen the match with Calendi who, after intercepting a bad pass from Carone, alone against Russo, with his left foot, made no mistake. The Taranto team persists and tries with a stone from Russo, deflected into the corner by his namesake. Shortly afterwards it was the crossbar that said no to Pegue’s great shot, while in the 17th minute it was Soccer who came close to scoring with Pedroso whose attempt, again into an empty net, was deflected into a corner by the other Russo. A minute later, second woodwork for the guests with Marangione stopped by the post, same fate, on the opposite side, for Castro’s attempt on an empty net. The last minutes of the match were painful for Soccer who, however, managed to resist and bring home the victory.

In short, a difficult match was expected and so it was for Soccer Altamura who managed to get the better of a very combative WFC Grottaglie and not at all intimidated by the greater technical level of the Altamura team. For the Altamura team, a victory that projects them to the second round where they will face Virtus Cap Sammichele who won at Futsal Prandone.

“One of the most heartfelt derbies of recent years is therefore back: next Sunday – comments Soccer Altamura – the PalaPiccinni must be bedlam because the girls will need all the support possible to continue the dream called Serie A”.
