Vedano Olona: meeting on water management on Thursday

SEE OLONA – ThThursday 30 May a free meeting open to all, dedicated to the sustainable management of water resources. An increasingly urgent issue, in an era in which drought periods are increasingly prolonged.

The cycle of meetings dedicated to public bodies organized by Istituto Oikos and the Fondiaria Association (Asfo) Valle del Lanza continues. The theme of the month of May is the sustainable management of water resources. LThe meeting will take place at Villa Aliverti in Largo Magnani in Vedano Olona, from 9 to 12, and it will also be open to all interested citizens, who will be able to participate in person or online.

How water and extra-urban environments relate, how river systems influence the supply of water for different uses, what are the challenges and problems for the management of this resource (reduction of withdrawals, polluting loads), what actions, strategies and mechanisms of governance can be adopted as good practices in water management, these are the topics that will be addressed during the morning. Giulio Conte of the Italian Center for River Redevelopment (Cirf) will accompany us in exploring these themes, followed by a round table in which Alessandro Uggeri (Idrogea Servizi srl) will dialogue with the water managers active in the Municipalities of the Plis Valle del Lanza, to immerse ourselves in the local context. In a scenario of extreme events, where heavy rainfall alternates with periods of prolonged drought, conservation and access to water resources are urgent and important issues to address. Correct forest management can contribute positively to the maintenance and improvement of the quality of water and water basins, which is why Asfo questions itself and wants to bring these reasonings and the sharing of good practices into the public debate.

The invitation is addressed to all interested Administrations and citizens. “We want our administrations to be ready and updated on some issues that mainly concern the extra-urban area. We believe that training moments are useful and precious moments for our territory”, says Giuseppe Ciapessoni, president of the Association. This training opportunity is organized by the Oikos Institute and the Asfo Valle del Lanza, together with the Pineta Park, as part of the “alleLanza” project, launched in 2023 with the contribution of the Cariplo Foundation. The aim of the initiative is to promote community management of abandoned land in order to prevent and combat the abandonment and instability of the territory. To participate it is necessary to register by sending an email to
