“Choosing Europe. The roots, the challenges, the dreams”, the Diocesan Catholic Action proposes a meeting on the topic – MolfettaLive.it

In view of the European Parliament elections, Tuesday 28 May at 7pm at the Auditorium of the Immaculate Heart of Mary parish (San Filippo Neri) in Molfetta an information meeting will be held on the European Union and the importance it has in our experience entitled “Choose Europe. The roots, the challenges, the dreams”.

They will speak:

  • Gianni Borsajournalist correspondent from Brussels for the SIR news agency and president of the Ambrosian Catholic Action, author of the book “Choosing Europe. Questions and answers”;
  • Cosimo Altomare, professor at the University “A. Moro” of Bari, former diocesan president of Molfetta, Ruvo, Giovinazzo, Terlizzi.

In a few weeks we will be called to experience an important moment of democracy, in which we will collectively decide the European future.

When we think about Europe, its institutions and us citizens, we know that we are immersed in a critical historical phase. In fact, today’s Europe is experiencing great challenges: just think of the war in Ukraine, geopolitical instabilities, the demographic issue and aging of the population, economic competition, climate change, the defense and promotion of democracy (dangerous nationalist and populist winds… ), to the protection of rights starting from the weakest social groups.

Looking at the elections the question arises: will there still be a European Union as it was dreamed, conceived and built by its founding fathers?

To answer, we will try to retrace its birth, read today’s challenges, and look to the future and to the Europe we dream of. This Europe needs responsible citizens who care about the European “common good” and who at the same time look sympathetically – as the Church does – to the whole world.
