Varese changes coach, Milicic-Napoli at the end of the line?

The regular season of the Serie A championship has just ended. While the eight qualifiers for the Legabasket Playoffs are preparing to battle to try to reach the championship dream, the other clubs are starting to plan their future. Many of these in particular will start from a change of direction on the bench, forced by one of the two parties or decided by consensus by both. The names of the coaches that we will see at work next season could be different from the current ones, therefore, in several cities in Italy. Starting from Varese, increasingly convinced of separating from Bialaszewski, and ending with Naples, where the relationship with Milicic no longer seems so optimal.

Varese changes course

A decisive change of direction could happen at home Openjobmetis Varese next season. The Lombards intend to improve their performance in the championship, which has not been satisfactory this year, and they seem intent on doing so without Tom Bialaszewski. According to what was reported by La Prealpina, in fact, the divorce between the American and the red and whites appears now inevitable. For several weeks his future on the Varese bench seemed in the balance, and now that the season is over all the signs seem to point in that direction. In his place Scola would have already chosen to promote Herman Mandolas, Bialaszweski’s current assistant. He will be the right man to take Varese towards more important heights, perhaps managing to obtain another one wild cards for the next FIBA Europe Cup and keeping Nico Mannion on the roster?

Milicic-Napoli at the end of the line?

One of the teams that most amazed fans this season was, without a doubt, the GeVi Naples. The Campanians, however, after winning the Italian Cup saw their performance in the championship drop dramatically, failing to qualify for the Playoffs. Despite this, some of Naples’ performances did not leave the various professionals indifferent, directing a lot of interest in Igor Milicic. After yesterday’s victory against Scafati, the Croatian coach spoke about the alleged offers he received during the season.

I am very happy here, my wife is fine, there is everything needed to play basketball. Everyone made my life here comfortable: the DS, the CEO and the president were fantastic. […] I had offers, but I decided to stay here. Perhaps not everything was reported in the best way.

Words that could reassure the fans about his future in Naples. The situation, however, would appear to be very different from that depicted in these statements. According to what was reported by our market insider Orazio Cauchi, in fact, Milicic would like to leave Naples. The Croatian coach would be willing to leave Campania, and he will try to do so in the coming weeks. The chances of seeing him on the GeVi bench next season, therefore, seem slim. That yesterday’s words in the press conference were just superficial declarations?

Boniciolli, here we are

The season also ended yesterday Givova Scafati. A championship made up of ups and downs, that of the Campania region, but which led them to safe salvation first under the guidance of Sacripanti and then under that of Matteo Boniciolli. The relationship between the latter and the company, however, has seemed to be decidedly compromised in recent weeks. Further confirmations arrived after yesterday’s match, with statements from Boniciolli himself in the press conference which seemed to be farewell words.

I thank President Longobardi for giving me this opportunity. Last summer some club told me they couldn’t take me because I hadn’t coached in Serie A for four years, evidently the finals with Udine weren’t enough. Now they won’t take me for another reason. I thank the president, open and sometimes even very harsh discussions with him, but always with the utmost respect. Let’s talk about those who invest for the good of basketball.

I would have liked to finish the season with a better record. But balance is needed in judgements, it is typical of Italian sport: those who survive go home with a vague sense of guilt, those who are relegated are completely happy because they fought until the end.
