Every May 16th since 1889, a human and banner river crosses the wheat fields for 7 km

All over 40 events, concerts and exhibitions of the series on the weekly website weeklyidentitaria.it

PIETRAMONTECORVINO (Fg) – From 7 to 19 May 2024, with the “Identity Week”, Pietramontecorvino will fully open the treasure chest of its material and immaterial heritage of culture, traditions and innovative projects, architectural and naturalistic landscapes. It will do so with 13 days of appointments and 40 events including concerts, exhibitions, excursions, conferences and guided tours. The program of the exhibition (available on the website weeklyidentitaria.it) was presented in Foggia this morning, Monday 6 May 2024. It will develop around the ‘fulcrum’ of the genius loci expressed by the procession-pilgrimage which on Thursday 16 May 2024, like every 16 May since 1889, will lead hundreds of pet peepers of all ages from village to the archaeological site of Montecorvino, crossing a sea of green wheat to celebrate Sant’Alberto Normanno, patron saint of Pietramontecorvino. The most spectacular and ‘choreographic’ peculiarity of this procession is that of the poles (the pàljie): very tall, colourful, decorated with a thousand colorful shawls, they are carried in arms, erected, by teams of 8 people and kept in balance through ropes that draw geometries in the sky.

THE PATH TO MAY 16. The Identity Week program will begin on May 7, at 7.30 pm in the Badiale Church, with the conference on “The Pilgrimage: historical, religious and social aspects” in which Renzo Infante, professor at the University of Foggia, will speak. On Friday 10 May three other events: at 9am and 2.30pm, “Mosacta” will once again be the protagonist at the Municipal Theatre; at 7.30 pm, in the Badiale Church, Don Antonio Schiraldi will talk about “The cult of Sant’Alberto”. Saturday 11 May, the day which will end with the Tarantula Garganica concert at 9pm, will open at 10am at Palazzo Ducale with three different interventions: the first, by Antonio Alberto Clemente (University of Pescara), will focus on “Pietramontecorvino: from the historic center to the historic territory”; the second, curated by the architect Massimo Padrone, will report on “Design explorations in the Municipality of Pietramontecorvino”; in the third, architect Mauro Iacoviello will delve into the theme of Bio-regional Communities. Also on Saturday 11 May, but at 4.30 pm, in the Palazzo Ducale the mayor of Biccari, Gianfilippo Mignogna, will present his book “Hosting is good” in conversation with the journalist Silvio Di Pasqua.
